Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP)

Calming, Connecting, Healing

The Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP) is a soothing, scientifically-grounded listening experience designed to help the nervous system feel safer, more settled, and more able to engage. Using specially filtered music, SSP introduces auditory cues that signal safety to the brain and body, helping shift out of hyper-vigilance, overwhelm, or shutdown. Over the course of several sessions, this gentle support can allow deeper calm, improved emotional balance, and an increased capacity for connection.

Safe & Sound Protocol FAQs

    • Filtered, safe sound — SSP delivers music that's been processed to emphasize frequencies important to human speech and communication while reducing those that may feel intense or triggering.

    • Gradual exposure — Listening sessions are carefully paced. You start gently, increasing as your system is able to tolerate more without overwhelming.

    • Nervous system regulation — The protocol helps engage the "social engagement" system (per Polyvagal Theory), which supports rest, connection, and growth, rather than constant fight/flight or shutdown.

    • Support and integration — Throughout the process the listener is supported to notice what’s shifting internally (in body, emotions, relationships), helping integrate changes over time.

    • The full SSP “Core” program is five hours of listening, broken into multiple shorter sessions over several days.

    • Progress is not always linear. Some changes may show early; others emerge over weeks or months as your child’s system integrates what feels safer.

    • Guided by a trained practitioner, the pacing, environment, and supportive practices will be tailored to your child’s needs.

    • SSP is not a stand-alone cure but works best in combination with supports, consistent caregiving, and safe relational environments.
